We Have Newbies in the House!

The phones are ringing off the wall and the e-mails are coming in by the hour. I think that the extreme cold has made people worry more about stray animals they know of. Litters of puppies are coming at us from every county around. We definitely have to increase our foster home base in 2009!

This is Cayenne. He was found by a young family of five that could not keep him. Their dog has a very high prey instinct and was a little too interested in the new stray kitty. He is about 8 months old and currently living at the Next Step Adoption Center.

Last week we received e-mails about three different litters of puppies. Two were in Guilford County and one was in Waxhaw. Fortunately all of them were split up between several rescue groups. These are the two that we got. Sue Y. is fostering them and I heard that they are currently pee machines! The guess is that they may have some Aussie in them but who really knows??

This is sweet little Pepper. She was found on New Year's Eve and rescued by a kind soul that called our rescue line and the rest is history...she is being fostered by Linda D. Pepper is five years old and weighs only 14 lbs.

Yesterday I went with Jennifer H, who heads up the ARFP rescue team, and Judy A. way out Old Randleman Rd. on a rescue. They had received a call about four dogs that were chained or being kept in a small pen 24 hours a day. Three of them look to be Giant Schnauzer/Poodle/Terrier mixes while the fourth one looks to be a Lab/Border Collie mix. Three of them were matted, one really badly. Their feces were everywhere you looked and they smelled of urine. Two of them tested positive for heartworms. They spent last night and today at the vets. office being cared for, vaccinated, neutered, and checked out. Below are a few pictures.

The vet. care, alone, on these dogs is going to run over $1000. Please join our team to reduce the number of homeless animals in 2009. Donate here now, or go to the ARFP website and hit the Donate button. It does take a village!
