Adoptions, Donations, and Starbucks!

It was a wonderful day at Next Step! First of all, FOUR of our babies found their forever homes! Annie, Webster, Kimberley and Cleo below all found a home for the holidays! YEAH!!!!

In addition, donations rolled in all day long! We received books, purses, towels, and pet food from a competitive cheerleading team that collected items for us! We had several people drop off bags of dog food and cat food and more purses. We also had several monetary donations made in honor of people for the holidays!

Out of the blue a nice couple we had never seen before stopped by the adoption center to treat all of the volunteers to Starbucks! How nice was that? For me, it was very emotional to think that someone would think to do that for us. There is a Santa!

Days like today keep us going!

Saturday from 11am-5pm and Sunday from 1-5pm the Next Step Adoption Center will be open for adoptions, donations, and puppy kisses! Please tell all your friends to stop by! This is their last chance to find a home in 2008!

Long Week

It's been a long week in ARFP!

Many thanks to the girls, Suzanne R, Yvonne M, Shari S, and Carolyn B, for speaking to two groups of cheerleaders that have adopted ARFP for the holidays! I know you gals did a great job Monday & Tuesday nights!

Wednesday was the SPCA New Leash on Life graduation and it was so impressive! The men at the Guilford Correctional Center do an awesome job training the dogs! There will be another set of dogs graduating in a couple of months so watch for the invite. Thanks Judie U, Jennifer H, Linda D, and Judy A. for showing your support!

The adoption center was also open Wednesday night, from 5-8pm. It poured down rain the entire time. No adoptions but a few lookers!

Tonight was ARFP's Ten Thousand Villages shopping night! Thanks Pam S, Rene' H, Linda D, Sam C, and Larry H. for coming, with dogs, and to hold dogs! Thanks to everyone that came out to shop! A BIG thanks to Lyn Koonce for volunteering her time and talent to entertain us! Our next shopping day will be in May for Mother's day!

Tomorrow is the first day of our Holiday Open House! The cider is ready! The cookie tray looks scrumptious! The puppies are sure to be on their best behavior!
Come on by and get Spot and Fluffy their holiday gifts!

Another Rescue, Another Days Work

This is Webster - another product of an irresponsible pet owner. Poor guy was found about 3 weeks ago shivering, frightened, and hungry. He only weighs about 23 lbs. and is the best little dog. He is housetrained, very obedient, and just as sweet as can be.

20 pictures of our fosters were submitted to the News & Record for their Adopt A Pet page again. I tried to even them out between dogs and cats. They will appear in the paper on December 14th so be sure to be on the look out!

Change of time and location for the following event:

A New Leash on Life Graduation Ceremony time and location has been changed due to a predication of rain and cold temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.

Please join us and help celebrate the graduation of Dixie, Wesley and Tank who have successfully completed their 8 weeks of basic obedience training and are ready for adoption.

Date: Wednesday, December 10th (date unchanged)
Time: 4:30PM
Place: St. Francis Episcopal Church
3506 Lawndale Drive
Greensboro, N. C, 27408

Please drive to back of church for parking.

I hope some of you will be able to attend this event. It is one that everyone in the animal welfare community should support!

Crazy Busy

My blogging has been narrowed down to posting flyers for the past few posts. Sorry about that. It has been crazy busy in ARFP! The holiday letter of giving just went out! Holiday donation cards are now ready to be sent out "in honor of" and "in memory of" a loved one if you want one sent. This is a huge fundraiser for ARFP and really does determine how many animals we can help every winter.

The Ten Thousand Villages event is a week from today and that takes a lot of promoting, posting flyers, etc... not to mention lining up cookies, tea, etc... All the press releases got in on time - YEAH - and the radio spots are running so listen out! I'll make a plug for 107.5 KZL and Rock 92 here! They are very generous to ARFP so show some support!

We weren't busy enough so we threw in a Holiday Open House on December 13th and 14th! Crazy, huh? But lots of fun it will be!

Look at this cutie that Jill and Keeley Z. have so graciously agreed to foster...and I only twisted their arms a little!

Can it get any cuter? And to top it off she, yes SHE, is our first Christmas kitten! I'm sure that being an orange tabby, and being female, will make her home easy to find! She tested negative for Feluk/FIV today!

Food Collections: A certain ARFP volunteer is challenging all ARFP volunteers to help fill the food bank. Our local (people) food banks are dreadfully poor this year and she hopes we can all give a little! Drop your canned goods off at the Next Step Adoption Center Saturday from 11am-5 or Sunday from 1-5pm.

Lastly I wanted to share this with you from Seth's new mom. Seth was Pam S. foster kitty! His brother Samuel is still available for adoption...in fact he is looking for a new home this weekend:-)

"This is Seth’s new home. His new sister just loves him and he’s very happy. His sister’s name is Lucy so we renamed him Ricky for Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. Thanks to every one of you and especially his foster mom for all the good care. We are just absolutely crazy about him. Happy Holidays."

Have a good Friday! Thanks for all!

New Babies

Introducing Rudy and Marcie. This one is Rudy. He is a Beagle Lab mix that was abandoned, with his mom and littermates, in the Asheboro area. We have four puppies from this litter in foster care and they all have great temperaments!

This is baby sister Marcie. She is a lover. This looks like her mug shot so I am posting two pictures of her so you see all of her cuteness!

Woody

Some of you have been following Woody, the little Brindle pup that was so emaciated, and the progress he has been making. Well, he is well and very much alive! He has gone from this....

to this.....

Woody is now a spoiled, active, happy puppy! Linda D. has had him since he entered ARFP and she did a fantastic job bringing him to where he is now. Randy P. is going to begin fostering him soon. In between he is at my (Sharon) house learning some manners. On the above night I failed.

ARFP Holiday Wish List

This year people are starting to ask early for our wish list. The economy has everyone worried so we are grateful that anyone at all is asking. We thank everyone for their continued support through the rough times that are ahead!

New Rescues

The book sale ended on a very high note! We raised over $5000 for ARFP and even had someone lined up to buy every book we had leftover at the end! SWEET! We cannot say THANK YOU enough to everyone that helped with the 2008 book sale! This money we raised is going to help so many homeless animals!

I'll introduce you to a few of those that have recently been rescued that will benefit from the book sale...

Maple is about 10 weeks old and is a Lab mix.

Nadia is Maples shorter sister :-) She is a chocolate Lab mix. Seriuosly, she is shorter!

Annie is a one year old Aussie/Terrier mix. She only weighs 20 lbs. so what you see is what you get!

Find out more about all of these girls plus others that are looking for forever homes on the ARFP website or at Petfinder.

Today is Friday and...

Nadia was Pet of the Week on News 2 this morning. Go here to see her bio and video. What a great little Lab mix pup! She and her sister can be seen soon on the ARFP site or Petfinder.

The book sale started yesterday and our loyal dealers showed up.

We had thousands of books for them to buy too!

At these prices we sold lots of books, and baked goods, in 3 hours!

Thanks to everyone for their baked goods! We'll be getting even more today so drop by! We're open from 5-8pm today and 8am-1pm tomorrow.

Books, Babies & Training

The book sale is already kicking our behinds! 10am until 8pm is just a long day no matter how old you are! Here are a few shots! Once baby Grady arrived it was hard not to snap pics. He helped mom put out the children's books!

We have been really slack in working our foster dogs to help them become better citizens so Sunday we starting correcting that! I must say that Woody did the best with Linus running a close second and Dexter right behind him. Here are shots of us teaching the babies to sit when we come to a stop.

Woody has gotten just a little full of himself so we practiced with his new Halti. This worked amazingly well for him and he soon learned that it wasn't so bad.

Here's Linus doing a great sit for Randy! He is such a good pup!

Here is Dexter sitting pretty for mommy!
